The Making Of
Celluloid Nitrate Strat Pickguards

Putting to rest the myths of the nitrate pickguards used on Fender Stratocasters 1959 - 1965.

Yup ... we sliced a chunk right off. The only way to show fresh inner surface material and put to rest the myth of black bleeding into white. The pictures do not justify the real deal ... unfortunately I could not capture the color as well as one can see it in hand. However you can see well enough the white layers were always a faint mint. The top layer looks much more "mint" but the "yellow" only travels thru the top and decreases as it meets black. This is a fresh cut surface. Compare to the old neck route to the left.

Another view. Nice fresh cut into the guard. Compare to the old bevel to the right. Celluloid Nitrate guards get more "mint" as exposed areas darken or yellow. The black inner layer has nothing to do with it. Now we know exactly what color the guards were when new. This is how we manufacture our Celluloid guards. Color matched to "as new" condition. We can the age them to taste or let nature take its course.
